Rules & Regulations

  • ​​Youth under the age of 21 (as of January 1, 2026) are eligible to participate.
    • Age Divisions are based on the age guidelines for the Catawba Valley Showmanship Circuit
  • Lambs shown must be ewes or wethers; no rams will be allowed to show. Lambs will be shown as Market Lambs regardless of the sex of the animal.
  • All lambs will be subject to mouthing when checked in and must have all temporary (baby) teeth in place at time of show.
  • Goats shown must be wethers or does; no bucks will be allowed to show.
  • All sheep and goats must comply with USDA and N.C. Department of Agriculture & Consumer Services Scrapie Eradication Program guidelines. Sheep and goats without scrapie tag or registration paper with corresponding tattoo information at the time of check-in will not be allowed. Scrapie Flock ID numbers must be presented at the time of check-in. Call 1-866-USDATAG or 919-855-7707 for more information. NCDA&CS Veterinary Division staff will be on site to do health inspection checks on all animals during check-ins. Any participants that are out of state will need to provide a valid health certificate. Show Superintendent or Judge may refuse to allow animals to enter or show that appear sick or show signs of infection.
  • The Breeding Doe show is split up by birthdate.
  • The Market Goat show is open to show Does and Wethers in it and it is split up by weight.
  • ​The show is open to other states. Any participants that are out of state will need a valid health certificate.
  • If an exhibitor has more than one animal in a class, the second entry may be shown by another eligible youth.
  • There will NOT be a sale of market lambs.
  • Market classes will be determined by the weight of the animal.
  • Breeding Classes will be determined by the age of the animal.
  • Showmanship classes will be determined by the age of the exhibitor.
Awards
  • Will place up to the top 5 in each weight class
  • Grand and Reserve Champion chosen from the first place winners in each class
  • Showmanship for each species will follow each specific show (Market Steer, Beef Heifer, Lamb, Goat)
  • Grand and Reserve Champion will be awarded in each age division
